This website explains that white wedding dresses were popular long before Queen Victoria's white wedding gown. The reason why it is believed that Queen Victoria started this fashion was because before her many Queens wore silvers and blues, and she was the first to break this fashion. The website shows portrait f brides in white before 1800.
